Procedure

Braces & Orthodontics

Straighten crowded, gapped, or misaligned teeth over time.

Braces close-up

In short

Braces move teeth into better alignment using brackets bonded to each tooth and a wire adjusted every 4–6 weeks. Both branches charge the same: both arches are ₱40,000. What differs is only how treatment starts — at the Tubigon, Bohol branch it begins with a ₱10,000 downpayment, with the balance following the payment schedule agreed at consultation. That ₱10,000 is a payment term, not the price of braces. Treatment commonly takes around 1–2 years. No dentist at either branch holds a recognised specialty qualification in orthodontics — what they hold is continuing education, listed course by course on the Meet the Dentists pages.

Overview

Braces gradually move teeth into better alignment using brackets bonded to each tooth and a wire that applies gentle, continuous pressure. Orthodontic treatment commonly takes around 1–2 years, but simple cases may finish earlier and complex cases may take longer. Treatment time also depends on case complexity, appointment attendance, appliance care, oral hygiene, and patient cooperation.

Who may benefit

  • Crowded or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Bite issues (overbite, underbite, crossbite)

When it may not be suitable

  • Active decay or gum disease needs treating first. Brackets are bonded to teeth, and bonding them to a mouth with untreated disease makes both problems harder.
  • The case is outside what a general dentist should be treating. Where it is, the honest answer is a referral to an orthodontist rather than a longer course of treatment here.
  • You are weighing clear aligners. They are removable and less visible, they depend heavily on wearing them as instructed, and they do not suit every case — this is a conversation to have at the consultation, not a decision to make from a web page.

Examination and records normally required

  • An examination of your teeth and how your bite meets
  • The records needed to plan treatment, which may include X-rays and photographs
  • Panoramic and cephalometric imaging where the plan calls for it — both are available on site at the Bohol branch

How Somosot Dental approaches this

  • Orthodontic cases are treated within the scope of continuing education, and a case needing specialist care may be referred to an orthodontist or another suitable specialist.
  • At the Bohol branch the panoramic and cephalometric imaging used for orthodontic planning is taken on site, so records and adjustments do not require a separate appointment elsewhere.
  • Retainers — Hawley and Essix — are provided after treatment, at ₱5,000 per arch. Your dentist confirms the wear schedule.

Technology at the Bohol branch

  • Panoramic (OPG) and cephalometric X-ray on site, for orthodontic records
  • Digital intraoral scanners
  • In-house dental laboratory for retainers and appliances

Orthodontic records imaging is on site at the Tubigon branch. Ask the Cebu branch how records are handled for a case seen there.

Treatment stages

1

Consultation & records

Your dentist examines your teeth and bite and takes the records needed to plan treatment, which may include X-rays and photographs.

2

Bonding

Brackets are bonded to your teeth and connected with an archwire.

3

Adjustment visits

Adjustment visits are generally scheduled every 4–6 weeks, depending on the treatment plan and the type of orthodontic appliance being used.

4

Retention

Once braces come off, retainers are used to help hold the corrected position. Teeth can still shift over time, so retainers are worn exactly as instructed.

Important limitations and risks

  • Treatment time is an estimate, not a commitment. Simple cases may finish earlier and complex ones take longer.
  • Results and duration depend partly on you: attending adjustment appointments, wearing elastics as instructed, and keeping the teeth and brackets clean.
  • Teeth can shift after treatment. Retainers hold the corrected position and have to be worn exactly as instructed — this is not optional aftercare.
  • Teeth may feel sore or sensitive after placement and after each adjustment. It commonly improves within a few days.
  • The ₱10,000 Bohol figure is the downpayment that starts treatment, not the cost of it. The both-arches price is ₱40,000, and the figure for your case is confirmed at consultation.

What affects how long it takes

  • How complex the correction is
  • Attending adjustment appointments on schedule
  • How well the appliance is cared for
  • Oral hygiene during treatment
  • Cooperation with elastics and instructions

What affects the price

  • Which branch treats you changes only how treatment starts, not the price: both charge ₱40,000 for both arches, and Bohol begins on a ₱10,000 downpayment.
  • Retainers after treatment, at ₱5,000 per arch.
  • Any treatment needed before braces can be bonded, such as fillings or a cleaning.
